Typically a vegan is a person who believes we should not eat or use anything from an animal.  A plant-based (vegan) diet is highly recommended for overweight children and their families.  If you want to get the most health benefits from your diet and see and feel dramatic improvements, a change to a plant-based or vegan diet will be the best, most life-altering change you can make.  This does sound drastic but the support for change to a plant-based diet is everywhere.  Humans do NOT need animal products in their diet.  Our bodies don’t need milk. We don’t need meat or fish.  We don’t need eggs. We’ve been told by marketing campaigns that we need these foods in our diet and we like these foods, but we don’t need them to be healthy.  And, actually, eating these foods is unhealthy– adding unnecessary cholesterol and fats to our bodies.  What is a vegan can be the most important question you’ve ever asked!

Eliminating all or most animal based foods from your diet will help your child lose weight and turn your child’s health around.  It’s evident that a nutrient-dense, high-fiber diet can help with weight loss, but it can also prevent and reverse diseases like heart disease, Type 2 diabetes and even some types of cancer.  The scientific proof has been published in The China Study by T. Colin Campbell and many health organizations like “The Physician’s Committee for Responsible Medicine” are supportive of plant-based diets.

If your child or a member of your family has been told that you need to make some changes to your lifestyle and eating habits, then you may want to give this strategy a try.  Even popular shows, like the Dr. Oz program, are showing us that changing to a plant-based diet does make a huge difference in a person’s health and can reverse disease.
